AI-Powered Root-Cause Analysis and Remediation Guidance for IBM i System Management

I propose adding AI-Powered Root-Cause Analysis and Remediation Guidance to IBM i System Management to help administrators move from simply detecting system issues to understanding their underlying causes and determining the most appropriate next steps.

This enhancement would provide an intelligent troubleshooting capability that continuously analyzes and correlates relevant system-management information, such as system events, messages, job activity, CPU and memory utilization, storage conditions, performance indicators, and related resource behavior. Instead of requiring administrators to investigate these signals individually, the capability could identify relationships between them and generate contextual root-cause insights.

The proposed capability could use Artificial Intelligence and advanced analytics to identify abnormal behavior, correlate related events and resource conditions, determine probable root causes, assess potential impact, and explain why an issue may be occurring. It could then provide prioritized, actionable remediation guidance based on the detected condition, while keeping the IBM i administrator in control of whether and how any recommended action is performed.

For example, when multiple system conditions occur around the same time, IBM i System Management could group potentially related events, identify the most likely contributing factor, distinguish symptoms from probable causes, and present administrators with a clear troubleshooting path rather than a collection of independent alerts.

This enhancement would help IBM i organizations:

• Reduce the time required to investigate complex system issues.

• Identify probable root causes more efficiently.

• Correlate related system events, jobs, resources, and performance conditions.

• Prioritize issues based on potential operational impact.

• Reduce manual troubleshooting effort for IT administrators.

• Provide contextual and actionable remediation recommendations.

• Improve system availability, operational resilience, and support efficiency.

• Help administrators make faster and more informed system-management decisions.

By adding AI-powered root-cause analysis and remediation guidance, IBM i System Management could evolve from primarily providing system visibility and issue detection toward more intelligent, context-aware troubleshooting assistance. This could help organizations resolve problems more efficiently while preserving the expertise, control, and decision-making authority of IBM i administrators.
