Compare enhancement: side-by-side with color

I have seen 2 different compares within RSE (Remote System Explorer). One of them is a side-by-side comparison and the other has color, but is not side-by-side.

What I am requesting is both in the same compare, either similar to or exactly like the compare editor in CODE400, which is the compare I still use. The CODE400 compare is far superior to work with, in my opinion. I keep the CODE400 editor on my workstation for this reason and this reason alone.

Thanks for your consideration and the great work you have been doing with RSE.

Use Case:

Anytime I wish to compare members. This can happen while working on enhancements to inhouse written code, or when a vendor update their software and one must rework modifications.

This feature is now available in the IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software V8.5 product with V8.5.1 fixpack installed.

The Eclipse text compare editor has been enhanced to provide sequence number management for the following IBM i source types:
    rpg, rpgle, sqlrpg, sqlrpgle
    cbl, cblle, sqlcbl, sqlcblle
    cl, clp, clle
    pf, lf, dspf, prtf

Sequence numbers and change dates are now managed on the side when doing Eclipse compare/merge operations. Care is taken to reduce the effects of merging on sequence numbers of the target file. Change dates in the target file for existing lines are not modified if they need to be resequenced as the result of a merge. This enhancement supports 2 and 3-way compare/merge operations in i Projects, local history, and RTC history. RSE has also been enhanced for these source types to allow for read-only side by side compare of two remote members.

The LPEX-style compare is still available from within the LPEX editor.

You could change the color for "Current line highlight" to see the line highlighted in a different color and better distinguish the actual change being viewed. This is done by clicking the Window -> Preferences menu and selecting General -> Editors -> Text Editors and changing the color for the "Current line highlight" to a different color.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest this enhancement to our product.

This RFE is consistent with our strategy and product roadmap and IBM is continuing to evaluate.

I very much agree - Code400 compare was intuitive and easy to use. I would like to see that kind of interface with the current developer tools.

Also ignore line numbers in the source member.

Ditto - And ignore line numbers in the source member. (I'll add a vote to that, as well).

The source compare tools in RDp need to be compelling, to bring 5250 devs on-board and deliver promised productivity improvements. These features are critical in shops faced with integrating a vendor's new release of a customized package (i.e., virtually ALL of them). Without RDp, you can't implement RTC for IBM i shops. No RTC means no CLM. This is important!
