This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

RDi submits CHGPF to batch on IBM i. If a column is dropped by the operation, CPA32B2 is issued and replied to with a 'C' automatically. When executed in a 5250 interactive session, an inquiry message is sent to the workstation where the user can decide whether to continue, or cancel the command. Since the command is submitted to batch by RDi, the command default is taken. It is probably not safe to just change the default from 'C' to 'I'. It is probably just as unsafe to mess with the system reply list. The best way to deal with this is to provide some way for these inquiry messages issued by client jobs to be redirected back to the client where they could be answered by the user from inside the client. This would allow RDi developers to code a dialog to reply to inquiry messages resulting from CHGPF, and ALTER TABLE operations which suffer the same issue.
For more information, see CAAC requirement AD0405 at https://www.ibmilug.ihost.com/commonag/treqs.nsf/9c76f872792db457862573af004e1b49/c2d61886a8ba03ee86257e60004684b8?OpenDocument
Current workaround: Run CHGPF from PDM, it can't be done using RDi.
Proposed resolution: Need a way for batch jobs submitted by clients such as RDi to redirect inquiry messages to the client so that the client can handle them. This could be an additional parameter indicating a data queue or something to receive the redirected inquiry message. RDi then needs to use this feature to receive these inquiry messages, and display a dialog that would allow the user to answer the inquiry message, and send the reply back to IBM i. I don't think CHGPF is the only candidate for this, it just happens to be my current pain point.

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.
Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for Power Systems
Component - RPG/COBOL Development Tools
Operating system - IBM i
Source - COMMON
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. RDi may, in effect or for real, submit commands like CHGPF, but it is essentially an “interactive” environment, and the typical response to CPA32B2 is to ignore it, to ignore the possibility of data loss.
Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
