Change "Compare File" dialog to use a dialog like "Open Member in Editor" dialog at first

When I click on the "Compare to a file" toolbar button, the prompt comes up with a list of connections, similar to that which appears when selecting to browse from the "Open Member in Editor" dialog.

I'd like to see this come up at first with the same kind of dialog we get with "Open Member in Editor". because I am almost always going to know which member I want to compare to. Or at least the library and source file it is in.

Because we don't have an opening window like that, it takes many, many clicks to get to the item I want to compare to.

Use Case:

It is time-consuming and tedious to have to go through several layers to arrive at the place where I already knew mostly what I wanted to get at. This change would greatly simplify the use of what is otherwise a really excellent feature, this particular kind of comparison tool, in RDi.

I asked for this a long time ago as well. I hope they do it soon. I use it constantly, and it is a lot of clicks to get the right source to compare to.

We have reviewed this requirement and we feel it would be a beneficial enhancement to the product. We hope to be able to add it to our development plans in the future.

Attachment (Description): This shows the very many clicks it takes to open a member for comparison using the Compare to a file feature of RDi. It also has a screenshot of the alternative interface that I would like to use.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. This gives the tool ease of use and anything that can make the programmers fast is a good thing.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.
