RELATED IDEAS

RDi does not show if the connections are secure.

Using RDi with SSL, there is no indication that the connection was made securely or unsecured.

Unfortunately most connections to the IBM i server are open and unsecured by default.


Use Case:

Secure networks, auditors and management.
I am implementing secured networks and there is no way I can prove to our auditors and management that the connections are secure. I can show that the configurations is set but there is nothing else to prove it.

RDi and its components need to have the secure lock symbol displayed to indicate the connection was made securely.

The auditors have been conducting annual checks on all our LPAR's and this problem has been reported negatively and has become a priority as its not visible to all upon looking at the work bench.

    Thank you for taking the time to submit your request. After careful consideration, we know that we cannot deliver your requested enhancement in the near term, so it is being declined. However, your request does align with the future strategy of our product and we believe it may have future value, so we will add it to an internal list for us to keep in mind for the future.

    The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. This is a security issue -- anyone that is dealing with auditors could be asked whether they have secured connections or not -- if RDi does not easily show that, it will be a problem.


    Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
