IBM Power Systems Development - RDi team
Requesting that IBM review the prioritization of this RFE. With the Aug 2022 release of RDi 9.6.0.12 the functionality to export RDi Outline view meta data is still not available. Development organizations needing to interact with *PGM and S8SRVPGM procedure meta data are forced to utilize external means of documentation and producing this data. The larger the organization and application, the more challenging this effort becomes. It is paramount that our IBM i development tooling atleast make an effort to keep in step other platform / languages (Java or .net programmers) had uad this capability are astonished when they discover how is working content assist in RPG functions. And most of them use free IDEs...
almost 10 years since this request was created 🎂
We have partial delivered this in the form of better Hover Text for procedures, and hover text for /copy and /include (for procedures included in other source). We will continue to expand our iDoc function.
We have reviewed this requirement and we feel it would be a beneficial enhancement to the product. We hope to be able to add it to our development plans in the future.
The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.
Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

While I have voted for this RFE I am hopeful that IBM will consider broadening its scope to include support for alternative documentation tools. While we were waiting for IBM to do something a number of projects were introduced over the years which have each garnered their own "fan clubs". It seems a bit of a retrograde step to tell all the folks who moved ahead and used such tools that they have to change their tooling to get RDi support.
I agree with M_F - this request should have a higher priority!
Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for Power Systems
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - Developer for Power Systems
Please consider this RFE an High priority. People from other platform / languages (Java or .net programmers) are astonished when they discover how is working content assist in RPG functions. And most of them use free IDEs...
This RFE will be under consideration for a future release. Status has been updated to Uncommitted Candidate. The comment information would be shown in Content Assist.
This RFE is the same as the one indicated. I thinks that this RFE if is implemented, it will be appreciated by the RDp users. I don't know why the RFE indicated by the Rational Team was rejected, but please consider this RFE as a very useful functionality that should be included in RDp. The IBM i is a great platform but in order to atract young professionals and keep the IBM i Community strong, we need a IDE that can compete with Visual Studio and Eclipse Java Editor.
This RFE is a duplicate of another RFE. See to look at the original request that is related to this RFE.
Would it be sufficient to just show comment information in the content assist for this RFE?
This RFE is consistent with our strategy and product roadmap and IBM is continuing to evaluate.
