Add a "Surround with" option in Lpex for RPGLE source similar to the one existing for Java.
A common case when updating an existing program is adding a condition for a block of lines, i.e puttiong these lines inside a 'if'. With this option, the user would select the lines and do the surroundWithIf action which would indent the lines (in free format), add the endif; after the block and the if before the block with the cursor positioned where the condition goes.
There would be similar actions for dow, dou, select and monitor. The context menu would have a Surround with option with a submenu.
Formatting would respect the current preferences for indenting and capitalization of the end keyword.
A warning should be issued if indenting pushes code past column 80.
Programmer wants to catch possible errors when invoking functions B and C in the following code;
var1 = functionA();
functionB(var1: var2);
functionC();
User selects the lines for functions B and C and chooses Surround with -> Monitor in the context menu.
Code is changed to
var1 = functionA();
monitor;
functionB(var1: var2);
functionC();
on-error _ ; <--- _ is cursor position
endmon;

Thank you for taking the time to submit your request. After careful consideration, we know that we cannot deliver your requested enhancement soon, so it is being declined. However, your request does align with the future strategy of our product and we believe it may have future value, so we will add it to an internal list for us to keep in mind for the future.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for Power Systems
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - Developer for Power Systems
This RFE will be under consideration for a future release. Status has been updated to Uncommitted Candidate.
In addition to surrounding with "code", I'd like to surround some code with directives such as /if defined(NOTDEFINED).../endif -- makes a quick job of getting rid of a bunch of code without altering the lines (and hence the change dates) themselves.
This RFE is consistent with our strategy and product roadmap and IBM is continuing to evaluate.
