This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. Support for IBM i NetServer is not being withdrawn and the website is in the process of being updated to correctly reflect the currently supported clients.
Since continuing to support IBM i NetServer fulfills the customers requirements, this request is being declined.
I would like to provide some updated information and need clarification before I can respond to this request.
First of all, unfortunately, the IBM i NetServer website is not current because we have had problems getting it updated and we have been working to get it corrected. IBM i NetServer officially supports file and print sharing for the following clients which I expect you have. If you are having problems with file/print sharing from one of these clients, then you should open a PMR. Additionally, if your IBM i is at the latest release, 7.3, print sharing must be set up slightly differently on the PC which is documented in the Memo To Users for that release.
Windows Vista ??? (extended support scheduled to end 4/2017)
Windows 7
Windows 8
Windows 10
Windows Server 2008
Windows Server 2012
Linux Samba at current release levels
Next, there is a comment in the justification that if Samba server on IBM i supported Kerberos, you could use Samba server on IBM i for file/print sharing. Samba server on IBM i does not support print sharing at this time, so it seems that you wouldn't have all the support you needed.
With the above support, will that provide your needs?
