This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

I confirm that the font rendering is worse than using the old Client Access for Windows with any font (and with any character set, Latin included).
It's not just a particular font or particular characters. Font rendering in general in ACS is quite poor. I'm just using the usual U.S. English character set. It's not that characters look "wrong"... they look **bad**. Java applications are notorious for poor font rendering, and maybe ACS is just another example. Maybe it's a matter of settings. Is there a way to turn on font smoothing or let the OS handle font rendering? (Windows ClearType works quite well.)
The latest information provided is not complete. Provided were two 5250 screen shots which looked identical between ACS and Windows. These two files were not helpful since to us the comparisons provided look the same. Also provided was a third file (Font_KanjiDifferences.bmp) which had a magnified set of character comparisons. The comparisons in this third file clearly show a difference. However, the characters displayed are not from either of the previous two 5250 screen shots; the comparisons were not labeled; and we do not know what unicode character was being displayed. We were expecting the unsatisfactory magnified characters to represent the characters from the 5250 screen comparisons that were also provided.
Please provide:
1. Normal screen shots for both ACS and Windows of characters that are not displayed satisfactorily.
2. Enlarged displays which clearly show the specifics of why the characters displayed in #1 are not satisfactory, and any commentary if it is not obvious.
3. Exactly which Unicode characters are not satisfactory and what they are suppose to look like.
4. Provide the actual ACS .hod file used for the screen shot in #1 & #2.
5. Provide the actual Windows .ws file used for the screen shot in #1 & #2
Please follow the previously provided steps (Turn off Font Scaling and enlarge the font size as needed) to make the ACS view the best you can prior to sending in the above information.

The space you see on the edges of the window are a result of turning off Font Scaling. That is exactly what enabling Font Scaling was designed to fix. But since turning off Font Scaling for the font and characters you provided seem to improve their clarity, we suggest leaving Font Scaling off in your case. You will then need to adjust the window size manually so that the edges do not have the extra space. You should only have to make that manual adjustment once and then save it.
You said that when turning of Font Scaling the visibility changed, but did not improve. Are you referring to the clarity of the character or the size of the font? I ask because we think the clarity got better and you mentioned that the size of the font was still smaller even though the windows were the same size. You may need to use a slightly larger font in ACS to get the same look you had using Windows 5250.
Please trying using slightly larger fonts if the size of the font is the issue. If you believe the characters are not being represented correctly, then please provide screen shots of the specific characters you are concerned about (preferably magnified) along with the details of what specifically is incorrect about the character.

Thank you for your comments. I tried your suggestion, but the results is not so good.
Actually, the font visibility has changed, but did not improve.
Definitely, the font sizes are different despite same window size.
(Additionally, when turning off Font Scaling, there are blank spaces on the both sides of window.)
Please check attached files (.hod file and screen shot .PNG file).
We have noticed that the .hod file you provided has Font Scaling turned on. For the characters you are displaying, turning off Font Scaling will make a noticeable improvement. Please turn off Font Scaling and let us know your results. If the results are not acceptable, then please provide updated screen shots and .hod file.

In terms of using Japanese characters, there are definite difference between ACS and iAW 5250 emulators.
I have already opened a PMR , but they said "work as designed". Although, the customer say that they cannot use ACS because of degradation of fonts.
1. Which font is being used for Windows PC5250
=> MS Mincho
2. Which font is being used for ACS 5250
=> MS Mincho
3. Example characters
=> see attached file "TestCharacter.txt"
4. Screenshots comparing Windows 5250 to ACS 5250 where you are seeing the difference
=> see attached file "Font_ACSvsIAW.png"
5. The Windows 5250 .ws file.
=> see attached file "IAW_Sample01.ws"
6. The ACS 5250 .hod file
=> see attached file "ACS_Sample01.hod"

Attachment (Description): Screenshots, ws files, and characters for verifying the font visibility differences between ACS and iAW.
Thus far, we have not seen any font degradation between iAccess for Windows 5250 emulator and the ACS 5250 emulator when the same font, size, window size, etc are the same. If you have such a case, please open a PMR and provide:
1. Which font is being used for Windows PC5250
2. Which font is being used for ACS 5250
3. Example characters
4. Screenshots comparing Windows 5250 to ACS 5250 where you are seeing the difference
5. The Windows 5250 .ws file.
6. The ACS 5250 .hod file
