Smaller barcode size required in 5770TS1

System: Product 5770TS1
Actor: Barcode size 0.007 required for barcode reader

Description:
Currently we are using a non IBM developed application for converting spoolfiles to PDF-Files. On most documents provided for our customers (for example: quotations, order confirmations, delivery notes, invoices) we are printing '2D-barcodes'. These barcodes are created with a WIDTH of 0.007. Many of our customers are using barcode readers which are developed and produced by us. These barcode readers are produced to read only barcodes with a WIDTH of 0.007. Now we are planning to move from this application to IBM 5770TS1 (Transform Services). While our development team did first tests with 5770TS1 they determined that the barcode on all our documents is printed much to big.
MSG-ID CPD6DF0 is shown in the joblog. Then we opened PMR 08107.022.724.
The IBM software support told us that the minimum supported barcode WIDTH for 5770TS1 is 0.02. To be able to use 5770TS1 in the future the minimum WIDTH for printing barcodes should be changed to 0.007 or even lower.

Use Case:

System: ERP systems, Online shopping systems

Actor: Customer

In front of every position on our documents the customers are able scan barcodes of items with our own developed barcode reader. Our customers can use this information to place orders, to manage stock in their own store and for many more functions.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. To ensure competitiveness with alternate solutions from other vendors, this should be implemented.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

For more information about CAAC, see www.common.org/caac

For more details about CAAC's role with RFEs, see http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/Blogs/i-Can/May-2017/COMMON-Americas-Advisory-Council-%28CAAC%29-and-RFEs/

IBM agrees with the request and a solution appears to be desirable and feasible. IBM intends to provide a solution. However, IBM's plans may change and no commitment is made that a solution will be provided.
