This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

We may look further into gcc-based tools in the future, but RDi integration of gcc is not something we will be pursuing at this time.
Aaron, Netbeans is an example only in the fact that I cannot compile even a simple hello world program on IBM i using it but I can do it on a Linux box straight out of the box. I did not add any special plugins or anything (same can be said for IBM i native compiles) I just pointed the NetBeans IDE at the remote system which had the compiler installed (plus all the other requirements for C development such as make etc) told it to take the source and build it on the target system. Now source on the target just the compiled object. RDi just needs to be able to take the source from the PC and run it against the compiler on the IBM i adding the make functionality etc would be greate as well, but just having the ability to right click and compile would be great. IFS compiles should be a no brainer as no need to copy the source between the systems..
I am wondering if we can further flesh out the description of what's being asked for so IBM knows exactly what features are needed. For example, I believe you (Chris Hird) use Netbeans to compile Linux things and you like what it provides. Does Netbeans operate on the "configure" and "Makefile" files behind the scenes?
