This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

The nginx web server(n1) is a very popular web server that we (Krengeltech) have been using in production for almost a year on spaces.litmis.com. It works great and setup can be automated (including the use of letsencrypt.org). That is much harder to do with the IBM i version of Apache (why we originally started using nginx) because IBM removed the SSL directives in favor of using DCM (Digital Certificate Manager).

Currently we use nginx from perzl. You can see a PASE compile effort by Dave Dressler on his blog: http://bit.ly/nginx-compile-pase
It's possible this might be a good one to try as a combined community+IBM effort; similar to the iToolKit approach.

Delivered. You'll need 5733-OPS options 7 and 11 installed with the required PTF's (SI64951, SI63663, and SI62570). Better yet, install level 4 or later of the open source PTF Group (SF99123, SF99223, or SF99225, depending on IBM i release).
Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Power Systems
Product - IBM i
Component - PASE, Open Source
Operating system - IBM i
Source - ISV (Independent Software Vendor)
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Power Systems
Product - IBM i
Component - PASE, Open Source
Operating system - IBM i
Source - None
I'd like to promote/recommend this first be delivered via YUM (repackaging of existing perzl rpm files). The ibmichroot project is gaining YUM support(n1) and I believe that should one of the primary mechanisms for delivery of open source moving forward. That doesn't mean 5733OPS shouldn't get nginx, I just believe YUM should get it first. Kind of like how JTOpen and JT400 work.
