This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

IBM does not plan to modify the cross reference server processing, but has delivered a function to make it possible to better manage the work being performed by the server jobs.
Part of modifying a *FILE object requires updating the information in the database cross reference tables. If the cross reference server jobs are behind on their processing there is a delay in performing the request. This processing cannot be avoided.
Consider using the QSYS2.ANALYZE_CATALOG table function to monitor how the database cross reference files are keeping up with requests. Use the statistic of how many entries are in the queue to be processed to decide when to issue the next RENAME operation as a way to minimize the wait time. This option was added to the ANALYZE_CATALOG function in fall 2020 with IBM i 7.4 PTF Group level 10 and IBM i 7.3 PTF Group level 22.
