After-hours EHR inbox triage agent

After-hours EHR inbox triage agent

Problem: "Pajama time" — after-hours EHR work — is one of the strongest predictors of clinician burnout, and the inbox (results, refill requests, patient messages) is its engine. Messages arrive unordered, urgent and routine mixed together, and clinicians triage them in the same expensive evening hours they were supposed to have off.

Idea: Add an Orchestrate agent that triages the clinical inbox continuously during the day: it sorts messages by urgency, drafts routine responses (normal lab results with context, standard refill approvals per protocol, visit summaries), and holds the genuinely ambiguous ones for the clinician — presented as a pre-sorted queue with drafted text instead of a raw firehose. Grounded in the NEJM AI UCLA randomized trial (Lukac et al., 2025), where ambient AI cut documentation time-in-note by 9.5% and measurably improved burnout and cognitive-load scores across 238 outpatient physicians.

Value: Clinicians end the day with an inbox that's mostly done instead of a second shift — burnout drops because the inbox stops following them home.
