PowerSC Trusted Network Connect Patch Management (TNCPM) capability allows identifying and downloading AIX service packs and security fixes for end-points. Currently, TNCPM downloads the security i-fixes using FTP channel, whereas, Service Packs are downloaded by integrating with AIX SUMA. SUMA allows to use HTTP proxy server for AIX service packs. The download for security i-fixes by TNCPM mandates direct internet connection on the TNCPM server.
Customer is looking at automated patch download and management solution. TNCPM addresses the requirement. However, customer is concerned with TNCPM mandate to have direct internet connection. Due to security concern, customer do not want TNCPM server having direct internet connection and connects to their key backend AIX servers hosting critical applications and databases. The request is to support one or the other as below:
a) Capability for TNCPM in downloading ifixes/security patches through an ftp or http proxy. Document tested ftp / http proxy server configuration
b) Master/slave capability where a TNCPM slave can be placed in a DMZ with direct internet connection. A TNCPM master placed in secure internal network zone same as their backend AIX database/applications servers. The TNCPM master, synchronizes the downloaded updates periodically from the slave. This eliminates the mandatory requirement for TNCPM server to have direct internet connection
