IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas

Improve time to get Full Sysdump in Highend Mission critical systems with huge amount of memory

As IBM we describe Highend Power servers as one of the most resilient and available platforms to hold mission critical workloads. Those servers have increasing amount of memory (several TB) and hold many workloads in parallel thanks to our PowerVM second to none virtualization technology. This in turn introduces some trouble when there is any issue at the HW/Hypervisor level and physical server stops responding: it takes ages (several hours) for a system with such amount of memory to get a System dump for diagnosing or explore RCA of such an issue.  So the bottom line is that customers turn into a decision point, shall they wait some hours with system down so as to get a proper dump and RCA being feasible or shall they IPL the server not having the dump and loosing some vital data to perform a proper RCA (to avoid same failure in a future)?

So, there must be some way to speed up the process of taking sysdump for analysis and improve therefore the unplanned downtime. Also have some woy to compress the logs taken so as to be able to upload them to the support systems.
