PowerVC - LPM validate not supported

When we have to manage a lot of AIX's (more than 2000), LPM operations become critical. We have to be sure that LPM operations will succeed. Same process that are on HMC. PowerVC at this time, don't propose to validate a LPM operation.

In the mean time a much safer solution to running dd.

Perform a mksysb of your source VM on one SSP tier and transfer it to a destination VM on another SSP tier. Then attach a new disk on the destination VM and run:

    alt_disk_mksysb -B -O -c /dev/vty0 -d "hdisk2" -m /path/to/sourcevm.mksysb

Detach the disk and create a PowerVC deploy image out of it.
