IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Setting SVC Site attribute for VMs dependant on PowerVC Host Site

We are using a SVC stretched cluster between two datacenters with one storage pool per datacenter in the SVC backend as our main storage in PowerVC.

Dependant  of the datacenter location of a VM we assign storage via "Storage Template" from the same datacenter to the VM and for full redundancy we use ports of both stretched SVC cluster nodes from the same iogrp in the "Port groups" section of the "Storage Template".

Without further configuration outside PowerVC the SVC now has to decide which storage paths it propagates to the VM as "preferred" via the ALUA protocol.
For optimal performance/latency the datacenter local ports should be used here but to indicate that we need to set the "Site" attribute for the SVC Host (the initiator WWPNs of our VM).

Please implement a way in PowerVC to be able to specify this SVC Site attribute.
One implementation idea is to tag PowerVC Hosts(Hypervisors) with Sites (list gathered from the storage) and use the Site attribute from the Host of a VM to set it in the SVC storage accordingly.
Optimal would be if that is also reset if a LPM happens to a Host with a different Site attribute.
