Currently if the Database admin renames the pool in IBM SVC after it is tied to PowerVC, the storage provider goes into critical state and PowerVC becomes unusable. According to PowerVC development: "We don't support renaming the storage pool from PowerVC. If you want to change the name of the pool, the only supported way is to unamange and manage the storage."
If you already have hundreds of volumes that use the storage pool, unmanage/manage is clearly not the best way. I suggest that either PowerVC will support renaming the storage pool at the SVC end or add a feature that allows renaming the pool using PowerVC.

Thank you for the suggestion, but unfortunately this is outside the scope of PowerVC functionality; PowerVC is not intended to be a point of storage management. In the event that an admin needs to rename a storage pool - the approach would be to change the pool on the SVC and then re-manage the VMs. While we recognize there is some overhead, this should not be an operation that occurs very frequently. Thanks again for the suggestion and your usage of PowerVC!
