Creating virtual ports as a way to bypass physical port level validation
Live Partition Mobility for NPIV clients requires that both (active and inactive) WWPNs for each virtual Fibre Channel adapter must have been zoned to the exact same storage port WWN on the switch/SAN and must have been defined to the storage array's host group definition for the client. In China Merchants Bank's environment, when they use DELL EMC VIPr to do the zoning, the active and inactive WWPNs are not guaranteed to be zoned to the exact same storage port WWN. Hence LPM port validation will fail. China Merchants Bank is asking for the ability for NPIV server adapter be able to present virtual target ports to the client to allow them greater freedom in zoning and support LPM.
