AIX command to replace "echo cvai | kdb -script" and "echo vfcs | kdb -script"?

I often use the following commands to help me determine (very quickly) which VIOS my AIX LPAR is "connected to" (in terms of disk).

"echo cvai | kdb -script" (For VSCSI)

"echo vfcs | kdb -script" (For VFC NPIV)

LPM is the main reason why I use this kdb incantation. I like to check, before and after an LPM, which VIOS my AIX system is connected to and make changes if necessary.

Using kdb for this purpose is generally frowned upon by IBM AIX support and development. Often, IBM support will state that this is "unsupported", particularly when kdb does not return the information expected by the user. This can cause anxiety and frustration with customers, who often come to rely on kdb for this information.

I was thinking that it would be much better if there was an AIX command (or commands) that could do this for me.

AIX development is investigating development of a new command or a new option to existing command to address this RFE. 2H21 is the soonest a delivery could take place in an AIX release.

.Probably wouldn't be based on kdb which isn't recommended for this purpose. Exploring an AIX command to provide this information.

Having a command that packages this functionality in a safe manner would certainly facilitate the life of the AIX sysadmins.

Something along the lines of lsvirt [--vtpm | --veth | --vscsi | --vfcs], by default output all virtual devices.

Can this also be done for Linux on Power?

This string has always been difficult to remember - there is definitely a justification for creating a new VIOS command for this. In the meantime a script will do.

Referring to the headline, how about "emulate" instead of "replace" ?
