IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

CRTDUPOBJ command update a status file or periodically send a message to the job log that indicates the percent complete

There isn't an interface to the CRTDUPOBJ command that allows us to monitor the status, nothing found in Advanced analysis too,
So have the CRTDUPOBJ command update a status file or periodically send a message to the job log that indicates the percent complete.

Use Case:

We had a situation to Duplicate a 400 GB file.
ASP was at 80% of 4 TB.
ASP increased to more than 94%, at some point when the CRTDUPOBJ was running.
But we had no tool to verify how much more data is left behind for copy.
As the object was in use we were not able to check the size of the duplicate object(new object)

System limits already includes tracking of database files.
The system limits can be used to recognize trends or points of concern. You could see the increment levels of database file growth and then conclude whether the create dupe is nearly done or not.

Refer to the KnowledgeCenter for more info:
    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_74/rzajq/rzajqserviceshealth.htm

A couple of potential queries you could use:
limit ID 15003 is showing the total byte size.

    select * from qsys2.syslimtbl where limit_id = '15003' order by
    last_change_timestamp desc

    select data_size from qsys2.systablestat where table_schema = 'COOLSTUFF' and table_name = 'BIGONE'

    Documentation for systablestat :

.We have a couple of questions about the change that you requested for CRTDUPOBJ.

Are you duplicating a single object with CRTDUPOBJ or multiple objects (a generic object name or *ALL)?
For some operations, a status message is sent when processing a group of objects.
An example is the Compress Object (CPROBJ) command. Message CPI3B01 is sent to indicate the object number of the total number of objects being processed:
    CPI3B01 - Object &2 of &3 being compressed in library &1.

Did you want a status message to be sent similar to message CPI3B01?

Reading the information in the "Use Case" you may be asking for a different type of status.
Are you asking for the progress (percentage complete) duplicating a database *FILE?
