API to set custom SRC codes

Create an API which allows the user to set a custom SRC reference code.

Use Case:

When the LPAR is in batch restricted state (like for backups) the SRC is set to A9003C70. It would be helpful to have the ability to set the SRC from within the IBM i OS for example to indicate how far along the backup is going.

SRC's need to remain reserved for the operating system since this is the only way to communicate with the user in many situations, and we would not want them to be cleared or overwritten unexpectedly.

    Hello Mr. Aasland,

What you want is to be able to follow the progress of the BRMS backup. This however can already be done in a different way in BRMS. For this you need the BRMS Network feature in order to be able to configure "Message Logging" in the "System Policy Properties". This can only be done in the GUI. In IBM i 7.3 Navigator for i is the only supported GUI. By configuring an "Resticted state interface" you are able to access a SMTP server also configured in the tab "Message Logging". This will enable BRMS, while being in restricted state to mail the message ID's specified so you are able to follow the Restricted state BRMS back-up. This is what we do for following the Full System Flash Copy BRMS backup.
If you need some help just let me know.
    Greetings Rudi
