This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.
Welcome to the IBM Ideas Portal (https://www.ibm.com/ideas) - Use this site to find out additional information and details about the IBM Ideas process and statuses.

This support was made available in version 1.1.8.3.
If you want users to stay up to date, you need a method whereby they can opt-in to automatic updates.
During this opt-in process, it would be quite simple to provide the IBM ID that you currently use to check the user entitlement when they manually download the update.
I understand the legal topics but at least we should have an easy way to have the users get new functions.
Most users are "too lazy" for the manual procedure and continue with the current version.
Maybe a window showing new features including the link to download page would help?
Although IBM has declined this RFE, the CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed.
CEAC understands this may not be an easy issue to address, but strongly recommends that IBM figures out some way to resolve this issue. IBM wants clients to be current on software and the support this RFE is asking for will make it easier for clients to stay current.
Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

While the legal restrictions have been adjusted to make it easier to get updates, they have not been eliminated. You are still presented with a license agreement which must be accepted before downloading.
I understand Legal's argument but we are talking about automatic update, not a fresh installation.
Your legal team signed off on making the old IBM i Access for Windows Updates publicly available for download without authenticating with an IBM User ID.
If you want people to stay current, you are going to want to do this at some point.
For legal reasons, IBM is restricted in how it can make products available.
I agree and support this however it needs to be controllable within environments that require change management for update rollouts. Our IT group could take advantage of this feature for testing the update however we'd need to perform a controlled change for our end user community.
I wish I could vote for this 100 times.
