Mobile Client for ACS

The new ACS is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

But today we use mobile devices with Android/iOS or Windows Mobile.

It would be a really good thing for IBM i when there would be a usable client for mobile devices.

key features would be:
- customize display size (example 17x25)
- hotspot function to click on
+ Selection (1. program A / 2. program B)
+ Function keys (F3=End F6=New)
- automatic calender when click on a date field
- automatic time choice when click on a time field
- specific keyboard with restriction to numbers in numeric fields. (think of RANGE)
- an automatic selection box when there are VALUES in a field.
- more (customize colors/...)
- usable PCCMD!

These are all only thoughts from my side, but i would be happy to receive a response from IBM.

Use Case:

See Description.

    In answer to your questions:

Is there a documentation about customization of I Access for Web? Yes. Here are some links. The mobile solution is a customized deployment of the Access for Web product. So whatever customization applies to Access for Web applies to Access for Mobile.

I will try the solution with VNC, but for example is it today possible to freely customize the Screensize? No.

Is IBM planing a ACS for Mobile Edition? No.

ACS requires a fully compliant version of Java which is why it will not run directly on many mobile devices (Android, Apple, etc). However, it does run on a Windows tablet. When ACS first came out, we published an article on how you could run it on your IBM i and use your mobile device (eg iPad) as a display:https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/ibmi/library/i-access_client_solutions/index.html . That was more of a proof of concept than anything else showing one example of its deployment flexibility. We have not pursued taking that example any further. For mobile devices, you may want to consider our web based product IBM i Access for Mobile: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/mobile.html . It is based on IBM i Access for Web which has been around a number of years and is very customizable. I'll suggest you take a look at that product. We are open to taking suggestions for how it can be improved for mobile devices.
