IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

MCH3402 - restore should move programs in use to QRPLOBJ or RPG should resolve to the program again

If you compile a program where someone is in the application then the older version is put in QRPLOBJ. This doesn't happen if you restore the program causing the program referring to it to terminate with MCH3402 (Tried to refer to all or part of an object that no longer exists). Because of this we have to be very careful when implementing changes to programs in the production system because we can't see if a program is used. Especially because RPG is resolving only once to a program for performance reasons.

I would like RSTOBJ, RSTLIB etc also to move a program in use to QRPLOBJ. This could be controlled via a parameter.

An alternative could be to change RPG to resolve the program when MCH3402 occurs.

Use Case:

RSTOBJ, RSTLIB etc should move a program in use to QRPLOBJ just like a recompilation do.

If MCH3402 occurs then RPG should try to resolve the program and update the reference again.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” low priority feature. Although this scenario does not happen often, when it does occur, it is hard to deal with, so would be worthwhile to improve.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

For more information about CAAC, see www.common.org/caac

We have reviewed this RFE again. We feel it would be a beneficial enhancement to the product and it is therefore still being considered for implementation. We hope to be able to add it to our development plans soon.

.This RFE is still being considered for a future enhancement, but because it is lower priority it has not yet been completed.

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.

IBM has received the requirement and is evaluating it. IBM will provide a response after evaluation is complete.
