Ethernet card type 268C (Virtual) reports incorrect speed

Ethernet card type 268C reports as 1G even though the PHY card served by VIOS is 10G. In the result, monitoring software reports thresholds exceeding 100% when throughput exceeds 1G.

Use Case:

We get alerts when Ethernet usage approaches 1G.

The Virtual Ethernet adapter is not directly tied to a physical adapter that is being bridged. It is also not directly limited in bandwidth the same way a physical adapter would be (ie the bandwidth can be more or less than any bridging adapter or aggregation of bridging adapters). In IBM i 7.2 and 7.3 the adapter will show *AUTO instead of 1G. To monitor bandwidth you may want to consider monitoring the bandwidth of the physical adapter in the VIOS.
