Change of name for ILE/RPG

Time to give ILE/RPG a new name that is better suited to its current form.
Call it "RPG for i", matching "Db2 for i".

Use Case:

By giving the RPG product a new name will help us define the difference between modern free format RPG & the older fixed, & partially fixed forms of the language.

This is always a curious request to me. The language is named "RPG IV". It is not now nor has it ever been "ILE RPG" even those News/34/38 contributors decided to call it that decades ago. Granted even IBMers call it that because they've enter the IBM i world post-RPG IV when they read the compiler names or articles referring to RPG IV as "ILE RPG" and thought that was name. You know, sort of like "IBM i" folks identifying the platform as "AS/400" today. Not the same thing, but a similar outcome.

For packaging and things like that, IBM docs do refer to the Compiler as the ILE RPG compiler. Why"ILE RPG" and not "ILE RPG IV"? Because that compiler package also includes compilers for RPGII and RPGIII code, which are OPM targeted languages. Quite frankly, they've already enhanced RPG IV with free format since the early days of RPG IV, so effectively you do have an "RPG V" langauge now.

IBM is doing a fantastic job keeping RPG IV enhancement compatible with the N-2 policity. I mean stuff that came out while V7R5 was shipping is also available on V7R3 via TR and PTF. That's fantastic!

Maybe a solution is to start callin it "RPG IV" because if that phrase ("ILE RPG") seems "old" to you, then start calling it by its name "RPG IV".

IBM does not intend to add a new name or versioning number for free-form RPG. This RFE is being closed.

If you rename RPG to “RAMPAGE” you'll have the coolest language with the coolest name!

There are a number things that need to be put in place to attract younger programmers. Name, embed the SQL pre-compiler, community edition of RDi. This is logical step now that it is totally free format, if not it will die.
Please also consider creating a version that can run on Linux, this would serve several purposes and enable some fabulous RPG programs to run on Linux. This would be a truly lucrative opportunity.

    Thanks

Please, it is also important to release for free purposes the RDI to be able to develop more applications with RPG in a more modern and simple way. Please Simon consider this. Thanks in advance!!

I would suggest "RPG+ for i" to emphasize the full modern usage of the language in all forms.
