Support the very latest C and C+ Compilers natively as IBM i targeted Compilers

The ability to use C and C++ on IBM i is becoming increasingly frustrating as new C++ class libraries have been introduced and implemented in C++ variations on ALL OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS. The decades-old Spec used for native IBM i development is not only frustrating but very bad for publicity.

Use Case:

The notion that "This is not your father's AS/400" when referring to IBM i Compilers (C/C++) is definitely not true. It is your Father's AS/400 because the compilers haven't been updated since it was named AS/400.
The subliminal notion of using PASE and Open Source Compilers is ridiculous. If I wanted to code for Unix/AIX, I'd move to a $500 Intel Server and load Linux on it and have up-to-date C/C++ compilers in abundance.

Is there any progress on this? I mean C++11 is a decade old already.

The lack of smart pointers in C++ is a big problem for modernizing applications. The debugger support in C++ for viewing objects in the std library is also very limited.

Isn't most of IBM i above the MI written in ILE C++? The developers at IBM would benefit the most from this enhancement.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. Although not everyone codes in C/C++, those who do so will want the latest enhancements.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address.

For better integration with open source and other ILE languages (RPG, COBOL) C-compliers needs to be kept current.

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.
