ACS Sql scripts F4 Prompt is too slow

IBM does not support CA for Windows so IBM is wanting users to move to ACS. IBM wants us to move away from greenscreen SQL and use the ACS SQL Scripts. Well there have been many issues I have found with this ACS software.
But this case concerns the F4 Prompt to get the field list. On the IBM greenscreen the prompt is instant. I knew it would be slow on the PC side but not this slow. We prompt several, several times while creating a single SQL statement and the ACS app takes about 10-15 seconds each time (sometimes it has been 25-30 seconds) to display the field list for us to choose the fields we want to use. If IBM wants us to use this tool it needs to be faster. It should either cache the field list on the first prompt, or it should maintain a file/field list based on the default libraries in the setup. If you want people to move to a product it needs to perform well. It's usually the little things that kill a great app. Joined files really kill time when using the prompt.

    I also fine the RSS prompting slow, especially if an SQL view is used in the SQL script. I don't think remote access has anything to do with this issue, acts the same with a local connection.

    I too find the Run SQL Scripts prompting slow and at times unusable. I nearly always work remotely (connecting over a VPN) so I imagine this is a factor, however it is a very common practice to work remotely.

    The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. At times the slow behavior makes the content assist almost unusable.

CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    Have you checked the network connection? or have the admin check the line description? if you are running on a slower network, or you are running on a VPN and the VPN is throttled or the line description is configured to use a lower line speed, that can all effect the speed of the ACS content assist.

    The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address.
    Interacting with SQL via the RSS function is a key part of life in IBM i today. Anything that improves the performance of content assists in RSS would be welcomed.

    Hi DSANDERS

    I think there might be a problem with you network or system configuration, possibly the Antivirus running on you PCs.

    I say this as I have 30+ LPARs of IBM i and my team look after another 50 LPARs for clients and I am not seeing anything like that response time on any support hardware or IBM i OS. (I.E Power8 or 9, IBM i 7.3 or 7.4) In fact, I don't remember it being that bad on a POWER6 at 7.1.

    As a test, I've just accessed by smallest LPAR for the first time this week (0.1 Processors with 4GB RAM, running 7.3) and the first time I prompted in ACS RSS it took a little over a second to complete, if I were to then repeat the prompt, it's instant.

    I'm not saying IBM cannot do more to optimise their code, but the behaviour you describe is not normal.

    I hope you find out what the issue is as ACS should be a lot more fun for you when it's running faster.

    When if comes to the RFE website, I feel your pain, it does get easier as you submit more of them. Ironically, you an submit an RFE for the improvement of the RFE website. I have done this and to be fair they did make the change.
    That said, I am sometime tempted to submit another RFE to ask them to rewrite the RFE website to run on IBM i but I suspect that would fall well on truly on deaf ears.
