Thought I would point out the D-IPL rules from IBM:

to support my dissatisfaction with the cost of vHMC on tiny single-LPAR systems which can use only a small fraction of the function provided by the full blown vHMC product, simply for the privilege to do D-IPL from tape
Alternate restart (D-IPL) device rules
If all the following conditions are met, you can do an alternate IPL from a fibre or SAS attached tape drive:
The system is POWER6, POWER7, POWER8, POWER9, or POWER10 hardware.
The system is HMC-managed.
The system is running IBM i 6.1.0 or higher of the IBM i operating system.
The tape drive is attached to an IOP-less IOA
The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. There would be some benefit to some virtual HMC sort of support in ACS for those who don't appreciate LAN console.
Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
