Replacement option for Management Central Product Definitions

Under OS/400 version 7.1 and earlier , Management Central provided product definition functions with a GUI to support creating and managing ISV/In-house developed applications. This support also included creation and management of PTF against the registered product. This function has been removed with current web access and Client Solutions product offerings.

We are looking for a replacement product or procedure to transition our application management and distribution processes moving forward to v7r3 and beyond.

Use Case:

We have a large number of product and module definitions registered in Management Central which has been used for many years to manage PTF creation and distribution.
Currently we need to keep our management machine at v7r1 to maintain access/control of these definitions.
IBM has not offered an alternative solution to create, manage PTF for ISV created applications.

    Hello Sir,

The thing is staying on IBM i 7.1 does not help you much. To manage Management Central (MC) there is only one tool available, IBM i Access for Windows, which has EOS since 30th April 2019. In other words although MC is still supported in IBM 7.3, the GUI to manage it is not.

A lot of functionality has moved from MC to Navigator for i and Adminstration Runtime Expert, For a lot of things still not "transferred" RFE's are created. Being a CEAC member I can offer to bundle them and inform IBM about this demand. Maybe IBM is not aware of the huge adoption/succes of MC functionality after all.

    Greetings Rudi
