Command to end writer abnormally

Currently, there is not a command to end a writer abnormally. The end job abnormal command ( ENDJOBABN ) does not abnormally end writer jobs. To end writer ( WTR ) or print driver jobs ( PDJ ) abnormally, one must call the QSPENDWA program. For example: CALL PGM(QSYS/QSPENDWA) PARM(WriterName)
It would be helpful to have a command interface to this program, such as ENDWTRABN.

Use Case:

An *IPDS writer job has ended abnormally but the associated PDJ job for the writer has not ended. User is now unable to restart the writer because the PDJ job is still active. Tried ending the writer immediately ( ENDWTR WTR(WriterName) OPTION(*IMMED) ), tried ending the job immediately ( ENDJOB JOB(NNNNNN/QSPLJOB/WriterName) OPTION(*IMMED) ), and tried ending the job abnormally ( ENDJOBABN JOB(NNNNNN/QSPLJOB/WriterName) ). The job did not end. Called IBM for support and provided with CALL PGM(QSYS/QSPENDWA) PARM(WriterName)

I we will consider having the ENDJOBABN command call Spool and if we detect this situation, we would kill the PDJ job.

I made the same suggestion to the spool team lead about 20 years ago. I recall he had grave concerns about the possible problems that can result from not letting the writer end in an orderly manner. These involve the various locks held by a writer job. We will have review this request carefully.
