Incorporate a keep alive feature for use in VPN environments.

The RDi would send an active ping to the connected host systems even when resources are not being synced between the client and the host. The keep alive (ping) would occur every 20 seconds.

The reason for this is because statefull firewalls have an open communication list. If a connection is inactive for x minutes, the firewall will automatically close the port.

Use Case:

A developer working out of a home office will connect to their corporate network via VPN. Source code will be downloaded at the first connection. The developer will then spend an hour or more researching and changing code with no further activity with the host. The network firewall will detect no activity for x minutes, and will then force close the port. The RDi is not notified of this port close, and will produce errors when trying to download or sync changes since the port closed. If a keep alive packet is sent, the firewall will not close the port, and no error messages will be generated.

This request lacks sufficient information for us to evaluate it. Could you please tell us what version are you running?
