IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Make ACS RUNSQL SCRIPTS Open Source/Mbr Respect SRCFILE RCDLEN

In IBM ACS RUNSQL Scripts, if you open a host Source File member, if that source member exceeds 80 bytes, then ACS "wrecks" the source code--potentially making it usable. This request is to have ACS retrieve the source file's record length, and behave accordingly. Today it WRAPS the code which causes problems when you attempt to save it back to the host and when you run in ACS itself.
Note to mention it still adds NULL termination characters to the source member records which is just horrible. Please make ACS RUNSQL Scripts Host Source Member Support better.

Use Case:

I opened a 1200 line SQL source member that contains the CREATE statements for several tables, sequences, views and indexes. That code was heavily commented with the dash-dash comments.
In many cases the comments extended beyond column 80 in the source member. The source file record length for SQL source members (on my systems) is always set to the SEU Max which is 240 characters. Upon loading it into ACS it folded the rows automatically and then when I exited (does it have a save option? I don't recall) it saved it to the host with those wrapped lines, making it unusable by the RUNSQLSTM command. And to reiterate, null terminated character in a source member is a bug not a feature. Please correct these "features" in a future release.

The CAAC has reviewed this Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. Longer source records should not be getting reformatted -- this really affects usability of the product.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual Ideas on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your Idea.
