get n'th element in delimited string

in sql be able to extract the n'th element in a delimited string. would remove the need to use mutiple substring and posstr/locate.

Use Case:

select get_element('abc;def;100;;;qwert' , 3, ';') ....

string, n'th element, delimiter

would then return 100

Would simplify below example to extract 3 columns from a tab delimited ifs file.

SELECT cast (work as decimal(11,0)) work, cast(substr(csvstring2, 1, POSSTR(csvstring2, x'05') -1) as char(12)) data,
cast ( substr(csvstring2, POSSTR(csvstring2, x'05') + 1) as varchar(20)) data2 from (
SELECT substr(csvstring, 1, POSSTR(csvstring, x'05') -1) as work,
substr(csvstring, POSSTR(csvstring, x'05') +1) as csvstring2 from (
SELECT cast( line as char(50)) csvstring FROM TABLE(QSYS2.IFS_READ('/home/lista.txt')) where trim(LINE)<>''))

    IBM believes that the request described has been solved with the SYSTOOLS.SPLIT table function which was included in the base of IBM i 7.4 and in 7.3 with DB PTF group SF99703 Level 15.
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.4?topic=services-split-table-function

    To get the third element in the string:
    select element
    from table (systools.split('abc;def;100;;;qwert' , ';'))
    where ordinal_position = 3;
