    IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed.

    The solution for partial file compares is to use the HASH_ROW scalar function to compare the range of RRNs you are interested in. Here is a link to that function:
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5?topic=functions-hash-row

    The result column you are seeing doesn't contain data from either row. It returns the member name that had the miscompare. This is a Unicode (UTF-16) column. If you are using STRSQL, you must CAST that column to a character data type to see the data. We highly recommend using the Access Client Solutions (ACS) Run SQL Scripts interface for running interactive queries.

    Comparing tables remotely requires RDB setup, which the service cannot circumnavigate by adding userid and password parameters.

    Journals are used to record actual file change activity, not a place to deposit information collected by a tool. If you want the results of COMPARE_FILE available after the statement is complete, you could run the compare within a CREATE TABLE statement so the results are inserted into a table of your choice. For example:
    CREATE TABLE mylib.mycompare AS (select * from table (qsys2.compare_file(<parameters>))) with data;

    We will make some documentation updates based on your request to explain the function a bit better.
