Add support for Java 17 to IBM i

Java 17 is a "LTS" or long term support version. By the time IBM i 7.5+1 comes out Java 11 will be down to only "Security Support" instead of "Active Support". IBM support for jdk8 dies April of 2025 so one might as well go to JDK17.

Just learned that Java SE 17 is mentioned on this 7.5 list:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5?topic=reference-media-labels-their-contents

    as 5770-jv1 option 20.

However absolutely no other IBM i release documentation,

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5?topic=programs-developer-kit-java-5770-jv1

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/java-ibm-i

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5?topic=java-installing-your-i-server

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6437873

mentions this with a single word. Can anyone confirm that its available?

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority Idea that is important to be addressed. For companies that have a need, or like to stay on bleeding edge, for Java, this is a high priority need. The most current releases of Java tend to also have better performance, which would be an added benefit.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address. This would help showing that the platform is actively working on supporting current standards.
