add comment (or label) on DB2 Views

On DB2 for i, it is impossible to set a comment on a view object. Neither the “COMMENT ON” nor the “LABEL ON” commands accept a view object. It would be very useful to set label (or comment) on views, to facilitate the work of database administrators. This problem is not specific to DB2 for I, there is the same problem on DB2 for Z/OS (but not on DB2 LUW).

    Thank you for that information.

    It's not logical to use the "comment on table" syntax when the target is a view.

    Add a little consistency in the syntax of DB2 would not hurt anyone.

    Comments and labels can be added to views using the identical syntax as tables.

    COMMENT ON TABLE view1 is 'this is my comment';
    LABEL ON TABLE view1 is 'this is my system object text';

    This ability has existed for at least 30 years.

    It is possible. You just need to use COMMENT ON TABLE syntax - it works for both tables and views.
