DLTIMGCLG -- disks goes 100% busy

Deleting an image catalog and its related IFS.files using this command

DLTIMGCLG IMGCLG(myImgClg) KEEP(*NO)

causes the disks to be 100% busy. This simply kills the system, putting everything to a halt. And it can not be interrupted once started. I have experienced this once on an production system -- nothing worked for 20 minutes. Users were very happy.


To me it looks like that when the ifs-files are to be deleted an instructon is called deep in the system that doesn't have any limitation on the load on the disks and it doesn't returns controls to the calling program till it is finished. It just uses all resources it can allocate.

    Sorry to hear you are having this problem, my team do this on an almost daily basis on dozens of LPARs and we do no see this behavior. I hope that if you can work with IBM support you will find a fix for this.

    IBM has identified this as a defect requiring a code/documentation change. It is important to use the process for IBM Support since specific configuration information may be helpful to diagnose the problem. Please contact your service representative to open a PMR and mention this Idea.
