add an option *bool for int parameters

Please add an option to automatically convert ind values to int for prototyped C functions that expect a bool. This would allow for easier usage of C functions from RPG, just as the *string option for pointers does.

An option to automatically convert bool return values back to ind would also be appreciated.

IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this Idea.

OPTIONS(*BOOL) would only work for parameters.

Another possibility is a new BOOL data type, defaulting to 4-byte integer. BOOL, BOOL(1), BOOL(2), BOOL(4), BOOL(8). And new *TRUE and *FALSE values, which would work with both BOOL and IND. *ON and *OFF would work with with BOOL too.

A BOOL definition would be compatible with both indicators and integers.

Adding a BOOL data type would be more complex for the compiler than a new parameter option and some new return-value mechanism, but it might be better for the language.

Newcomers to RPG would be more comfortable with BOOL, *TRUE, *FALSE, than with IND, *ON, *OFF.

BUT it might also be more confusing for newcomers, since there would be two true/false data types: bool and indicator.

We welcome discussion about these questions in the comments.
