IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Add an EMAIL space to the *USRPRF object and allow that value to be retrieved with the qsyrusri api and RTVUSRPRF CL command

As we add more and more user profiles, the need to send those users email from the IBM i partition (using whatever) is important. However, today there is no way to associate an email address with an end-user's *USRPRF. For example, if I need to send a SPOOLED file to the user, I have to know what their email is when designing the program they are using. However, it the *USRPRF had an EMAIL space associated with it, similar to the HOME DIRECTORY, then I could simply call qsyrusri with format USRI0300 or if I'm using CL, the RTVUSRPRF EMAIL(&EMAIL) command.

The EMAIL address should be added to the end of format USRI0300 or perhaps a new format should be created with things like HOMEDIR, LOCALE and now EMAIL address. But a properly modified USRI0300 format would be acceptable.

    No work is planned for this request.

    There have been previous requests to add user defined fields to the user profile. To allow customer or application specific data to be associated with a user profile, IBM i provides the following APIs (available in service program QSYUSRIN). The data associated with the user profile is stored and retrieved on an individual user profile basis. This interface allows for up to 1700 bytes of information to be stored for a single Application information ID (See API documentation). Multiple Application information ID entries can be created for a user profile.

    The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority Idea that should be addressed.

    Not everyone wants to create directory entries for their user profiles. if implemented, I would also request that its also added to the user profile info view. This makes life easier.

    Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

    Workaround:

    Add the User to the Systemdirectory (WRKDIRE) and the mailadress via WRKNAMSMTP *SYSTEM.

    You can retrieve this information with sql like:

    Exec SQL SELECT RTRIM(smtpuid) CONCAT '@' CONCAT RTRIM(domroute)

    INTO :MailAddress

    FROM qusrsys.qatmsmtpa a

    JOIN qusrsys.qaokl02a b

    ON (b.wos1usrp = :pUserName AND

    a.userid = b.wos1dden AND

    a.address = b.wos1ddgn);
