Allow IBM i connection to Fix Central to download PTF iso image files to also use port 990 as well as port 21 for secure downloads.

My company has threatened to disallow a connection to Fix Central using port 21 even if it is secure.  This would prohibit the ability to download iso image files from Fix Central to the IBM i.  Right now if the command FTP <fix-central> SECCNN(*SSL) is issued and the certificates from IBM are installed in the DCM and assigned to the FTP client, port 21 is used.

On IBM if, if the following command was used FTP RMTSYS(<fix-central>) PORT(*SECURE) SECCNN(*IMPLICIT) DTAPROT(*PRIVATE), the initial contact with Fix Central would go out using port 990 and avoid port 21 altogether.

You would still need firewall rules established to open ports 65024 through 65535 for the encrypted data transfer which I believe most companies would permit.

This enhancement will not be performed. It can be demonstrated that port 21 is secure for the fix download hosts. If an attempt is made to login without TLS, the attempt will fail and produce the error message "550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel".

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM not implement this request.

There are other options like download director, ordering the PTFS directly from your system.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.
