This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Any ftp client can log into the server and use the ftp subcommand system to determine the name of the OS and what level it is running. IBM does try to obfuscate the information provided by using the name of an OS long discontinued (OS/400) instead of the current (IBM i).
> system
215 OS/400 is the remote operating system. The TCP/IP version is "V7R5M0".
There's a number of reasons why I'd like to disable the system subcommand:
1 - Knowing the name of the OS allows nefarious individuals to perform a more targeted attack.
2 - Knowing the level of the OS may notify a nefarious user that this may be an obsolete version of the OS and may be less likely to have recent security patches.
3 - If a person is in IBM Early Programs it may be considered a violation of NDA for someone to see: The TCP/IP version is "rNext".
4 - (minor petty) Neither OS/400 nor IBM i are registered with IANA: https://www.iana.org/assignments/operating-system-names/operating-system-names.xhtml
Note: Since IBM i's ftp client runs system when doing ftp from one IBM i to another will this cause an issue if system is disabled?
230 ROB logged on.
OS/400 is the remote operating system. The TCP/IP version is "V7R5M0".
250 Now using naming format "0".
257 "ROB" is current library.
