IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Thank you for the additional details regarding your automation use case. To properly evaluate the request, we have an additional question to understand your environment and objectives.

Based on your goal of automating the restore of user libraries from one system?s iASP to another partition, we need to understand whether the primary purpose is periodic environment refresh, test or QA system updates, or other forms of non real time data movement. If that is the case, the recommended and currently supported approach is to use RSTLIBBRM with *RSTLST. We recognize that, given the complexity of your environment and the frequency of changes, the recommended option may be difficult to implement. This is why you have requested direct support for the *ALLUSR special value on RSTLIBBRM. The BRMS team will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. The BRMS team will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.

However, if your objective is high availability, real time replication, minimal downtime, or disaster recovery readiness, then BRMS is not designed for that purpose. In those scenarios, PowerHA (or another replication technology) is the appropriate solution and the BRMS team is prepared to close the issue and recommends pursuing a replication software like PowerHA.

Please let us know your primary objective for the BRMS team to confirm how to proceed.

    The requirements are:

    1. Automate the restore process. *ALLUSR coming from one system's iASP to be restored to another partition.

    2. STRRCYBRM OPTION(*ALLUSR) ACTION(*RESTORE) FROMSYS() command does not support our request for automation purposes. We need to select *ALL for the restore command to run. Is there a command that would select *ALLUSR libraries?

    3. RSTLIBBRM SAVLIB(*ALLUSR) would be performed for automation purpose, hence requested for this. The use of *RSTLST is another way but the problem with this is changing all the complex control groups that are already in place.

Please refer to these 2 tickets for more information on the request - TS019947840 & TS020863366.

    Thank you...

The BRMS team would like to confirm whether the use of the existing STRRCYBRM OPTION(*ALLUSR) ACTION(*RESTORE) FROMSYS() support satisfies your request.

If this approach meets your requirements, BRMS development is prepared to close the issue and deliver the solution based on the current STRRCYBRM functionality.
Please let us know if this is acceptable.
