Hello IBM ACS users

Hello IBM,

In the latest IBM ACS Windows App Pkg 1.1.0.29, ODBC SSL encryption is not available for 32-bit applications (typically MS Excel and MS Access).

We use a large Citrix farm, where both Citrix and Microsoft recommend using only the 32-bit version of Office.

For security reasons, an unencrypted ODBC connection is not an option in our enterprise IT environment.

A 64-bit version of Office isn't an option—it just causes problems and incompatibility issues with Excel macros and add-ins.

IBM urgently needs to release an update with 32-bit support. !!!!

For your information:

If you update to the new version 1.1.0.29 and attempt to use an encrypted ODBC connection, you will receive the following error message.

ODBC (dsn=Systemname) [1]
ODBC: ERROR [08S01] [IBM][System i Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=25207 - CWBCO1034 - SSL error, function returned 25207, Systemname

    Hello, thank you for your information,

    Due to a misunderstanding with IBM Support, I was on the wrong track.

    By disabling the Fips parameter via the IBM ACS system settings, SSL encryption is still possible.

    This parameter can also be changed via a registry key, allowing for automated software distribution via DSM.

    Thanks to everyone who has supported us/me here.

    Thank you for submitting your Idea to enhance IBM i Access Client Solutions - Windows Application Package.

    Version 1.1.0.29 includes an update to IBM GSKit version 9.0.0.3 with the latest security updates.

    Starting with version 9, IBM GSKit is only FIPS 140-3 certified for 64-bit platforms.
    This means that 32-bit applications will now fail with "CWBCO1034 SSL error, function returned 25207" if they attempt to use SSL and have FIPS compliance enabled (the default).

    To continue using SSL with 32-bit applications, FIPS compliance must be disabled.

    FIPS compliance can be disabled in the IBM i Access control panel under the "Other" tab.
