IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

Automatic source verify

.NET and JAVA IDE's (including Eclipse) do automatic source verification with changes in the source. This feature enable the programmer to easily detect errors in the code as he/she types it.

Use Case:

Every day of a programmer using RPD. The user changes the source code and the IDE automatically shows errors related to the last changes.

This RFE has been re-evaluated.  Due to the relatively low number of votes, this RFE is now being declined.

PLEASE allow it to be turned off. Can't have RDP locked up doing a verify that long...

First of all, thanks for your attention. I think that the line syntax check is good, but it will be really great if after any chance in the source, RDp automatically executes the source verification (I usually do it pressing Ctrl+Shift+V). This will reduce the time needed in correcting errors after a long programming session. Syntax checking is only that: a syntax check mechanism but it doesn't give any further details of the errors like missing fields definitions or undefined variables.

Just to clarify this request, could you please let us know what IBM i languages you are interested in for this support?
Also the current support for ILE RPG is for the syntax check errors to be displayed after you have entered your code on a line and then move to the next line. Is this insufficient compared to seeing the errors as you type?
