Retrieve data area description

Develop a CL command or API to retrieve the description of a data area (i.e., retrieve the type and length of the data area).

Use Case:

When ready to promote development work to production which includes any new data areas. Retrieve the data area type and length so that it can be properly created in production.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed.

I voted for this RFE again. While QWCRDTAA retrieves the data area description and contents. It does not retrieve the contents in a usable form to generically move new data areas to production. If the data area value is decimal, the retrieved value is the bytes containing the packed-decimal value, but not the value itself. Hence a lot of code must be written to extract the possible decimal values--i.e., anywhere from a single-digit integer to a number with 24 digits including 0 to 9 decimal positions. it's not impossible, but requires very cumbersome coding.

The functionality for this is provided in the QWCRDTAARA API. It's embarrassing because I've used the API before, but only to retrieve the stored data area value. (Although I coded the variables to retrieve the data area type and length.)

I've removed my vote and contacted others to let them know the API already exists.
