This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.
Welcome to the IBM Ideas Portal (https://www.ibm.com/ideas) - Use this site to find out additional information and details about the IBM Ideas process and statuses.
IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com) - Use this site to view all of your ideas, create new ideas for any IBM product, or search for ideas across all of IBM.

Can we have an update on this RFE?
Current limitation of ipsec filtering is:
>> We need to create 2 different rules for birectional communication to happen. (outbound + Inbound)
>> Due to this, if we want to allow DNS traffic (for eg.) from an AIX machine, we need to create 2 rules as below:
---> # genfilt -v 4 -a P -s 10.1.1.0 -m 255.255.255.0 -d 10.1.1.45 -M 255.255.255.255 -g N -c udp -o gt -p 1023 -O eq -P 53 -r L -w I -l N -f Y
---> # genfilt -v 4 -a P -s 10.1.1.45 -m 255.255.255.255 -d 10.1.1.0 -M 255.255.255.0 -g N -c udp -o eq -p 53 -O gt -P 1023 -r L -w O -l N -f Y
Note: 10.1.1.0 is AIX machine's IP and 10.1.1.45 is DNS server's IP.
>>There is a potential problem in rule #2, as we are allowing DNS server to access AIX machine's any port (greater than 1023) from its source port 53.
Advantages of stateful filtering.
>> This issue can be resolved, if we perform stateful filtering.
>> In stateful filtering, only rule #1 would help reply traffic(from DNS server to AIX machine) to pass through without the need to rule #2.
Moreover, NAT functionality is not required currently. It can be optional, but stateful filtering is must for IPSec to handle network traffic efficiently.
