Hi ,
We urge the reinstatement of the 'sed' command in the next patch for HMC v10. Its removal (PTF MF71298 and MF71299) has critically impacted the functionality of numerous scripts, including ezh (Brian Smith) and eezh (Matthew Opoka). Additionally, we propose the integration of the 'awk' command for its powerful scripting capabilities.
Thank you for considering.

Hi,
Although PTF MF71553 HMC V10 R3 M1051.0 states that it "Fixed an issue causing the sed command to fail when a command argument contains a dash."
My HMC is at a newer version:
> lshmc -v | grep -E "*TM|*SE"; lshmc -V | head -n -2 | sed 's/"/ /g'
*TM 7063-CR2
*SE <obfuscated>
version= Version: 10
Release: 3
Service Pack: 1060
HMC Build level 2406041953
MF71690 - HMC V10R3 M1060
Yet:
> sed
bash: : restricted: cannot specify command or options in command names
We will try to see alternatives for this issue. Thanks for reaching out to IBM for enhancements.
Recovering the ability to perform data transformations is fundamental for an effective use of the HMC.
The alternative is to run all the logic outside of the HMC, with a new ssh session for each command, which is both slow and cumbersome.
The security of the HMC does not depend on the ability to run specific commands, but on what queries/changes the user can do.
